Effective Date: September 18, 2026
These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern membership in Young Professionals of Johnson City (“YPJC”), use of the YPJC website and member portal, and participation in YPJC programs and activities.
YPJC is a program of The Chamber of Commerce Foundation, a nonprofit organization located at 602 Sevier St. #101, Johnson City, TN 37604 (“the Chamber,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).
By purchasing or renewing a YPJC membership, creating or using a member account, or participating in YPJC programs or services, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
1. Membership Eligibility
YPJC membership is intended for individuals ages 21 through 40 who live, work, or play in Johnson City and the surrounding community.
Memberships are individual and may not be transferred, shared, or used by another person.
YPJC reserves the right to verify eligibility and request reasonable information necessary to confirm that an applicant meets membership requirements.
Individuals who reach age 41 will remain active members through the end of their current paid membership term. At the member’s next renewal date, the individual may transition to alumni status rather than renewing as an active YPJC member, subject to YPJC’s current alumni policies and benefits.
YPJC reserves the right to decline or cancel a membership when reasonably necessary because of ineligibility, prior or current conduct, safety concerns, misuse of YPJC programs or services, or failure to comply with these Terms or other YPJC policies.
If YPJC declines an initial membership application after payment and before membership benefits have been materially used, YPJC may refund the membership payment. This does not limit YPJC’s ability to terminate an existing membership without refund for misconduct or violations of these Terms.
2. Annual Membership and Automatic Renewal
YPJC membership is currently $75 per year.
Membership is an annual subscription that automatically renews at the end of each membership term unless canceled before the applicable renewal date.
By purchasing a membership, you authorize YPJC and its payment processor to charge the payment method you provide for your initial membership and each subsequent annual renewal until you cancel your subscription.
Approximately seven days before an annual renewal, members will receive an email notification identifying the upcoming renewal date and payment method scheduled to be charged. Members will have an opportunity to update their payment information or manage their subscription before renewal.
Your membership will remain active unless and until it is canceled, expires, or is terminated in accordance with these Terms.
3. Changes to Membership Dues
YPJC may change the cost of membership in the future.
If the annual membership price changes, members will be notified before the new price is charged. A new membership price will apply to the member’s next renewal rather than retroactively to an already-paid membership term.
Members who do not wish to renew at the new price may cancel before their renewal date.
4. Cancellation
You may cancel the automatic renewal of your membership at any time through the payment portal available through your member profile.
You may also request cancellation by contacting YPJC at info@ypjohnsoncity.com before your scheduled renewal date.
Canceling automatic renewal does not immediately terminate your current paid membership. Unless otherwise stated, you will continue to have access to membership benefits through the end of the membership term for which you have already paid.
Cancellation prevents your membership from automatically renewing for another annual term.
It is the member’s responsibility to cancel before the renewal charge is processed if the member does not wish to renew.
5. Refund Policy
Membership dues are generally nonrefundable.
Canceling a membership after an annual renewal has been processed does not entitle the member to a refund of that renewal payment. Upon request, YPJC can cancel future automatic renewal so the membership does not renew again.
YPJC may issue a full or partial refund in exceptional circumstances at its discretion. The issuance of a refund in one circumstance does not create an obligation to provide refunds in similar circumstances in the future.
If YPJC terminates a membership because of misconduct or violation of these Terms, unused membership dues will generally be forfeited and will not be refunded.
6. Member Accounts
Each member is responsible for maintaining the security of their account and login credentials.
Accounts may only be used by the individual member to whom the account belongs. Members may not share passwords, permit another individual to use their account, impersonate another person, attempt to access another member’s account, or otherwise circumvent website security.
Members are responsible for keeping their account information reasonably current and accurate.
Please notify YPJC promptly if you believe your account has been accessed or used without authorization.
7. Member Directory
Active members are included in YPJC’s online member directory as a feature of membership.
A member’s name may be publicly visible through the directory. Private contact information, including personal email addresses, phone numbers, mailing addresses, and payment information, is not displayed publicly through the directory.
Members may maintain profile information such as a photograph, biography, professional information, and links where those features are available.
Because participation in the directory is part of the functionality of YPJC membership, members cannot completely opt out of having a directory profile while maintaining an active membership.
8. Profiles and Member-Submitted Content
Members are responsible for information and content they add to their profiles or submit through YPJC’s website.
Members may identify their employer, profession, business, projects, community involvement, interests, or other appropriate information and may include permitted links to professional or business websites.
Members may not post content that is unlawful, threatening, harassing, discriminatory, sexually explicit, fraudulent, defamatory, intentionally misleading, or otherwise inappropriate for a professional community.
By submitting profile information or other content intended to appear on the YPJC website, you give YPJC permission to display and use that content as reasonably necessary to operate the membership platform and promote YPJC membership and activities.
You represent that you have the right to submit any content, images, links, or other materials you provide.
YPJC may remove content that violates these Terms or is otherwise inappropriate for the platform.
9. Community Messaging and Member Communications
YPJC provides member communication features to encourage connection, relationship-building, information sharing, and community involvement.
The member platform is not a sales prospecting database or mass-marketing platform.
Members may naturally discuss their work, profession, business, projects, and professional expertise as part of genuine conversations and relationships. Members may respond when another member requests a recommendation, service, professional connection, or relevant information.
Members may not use YPJC’s member communication features to:
- Send unsolicited or repetitive sales pitches
- Mass-message members for commercial purposes
- Harvest member information for sales, recruiting, mailing lists, or outside databases
- Repeatedly promote products, services, listings, or business opportunities
- Send spam or irrelevant promotional content
- Harass, threaten, intimidate, bully, or demean another member
- Send sexually explicit, obscene, or otherwise inappropriate content
- Share another member’s private messages or personal contact information without permission
- Use the platform primarily to promote political candidates, campaigns, parties, religious organizations, or ideological agendas
- Engage in fraudulent, unlawful, or deceptive activity
- Use the platform in a way that interferes with other members’ ability to participate comfortably in the YPJC community
The purpose of these restrictions is not to prevent members from doing business with one another or discussing their professional lives. Genuine relationship-building and member-to-member referrals are welcome. The distinction is between organic professional connection and unsolicited solicitation.
YPJC may determine, in its reasonable discretion, when use of the platform crosses that line.
10. Privacy of Member Communications
Member-to-member messaging features are intended to provide a more private means of communication than the public member directory. However, members should not treat communications through the platform as confidential, privileged, or guaranteed to be private.
YPJC and authorized administrators or technology providers may have the technical ability to access communications when reasonably necessary to operate or maintain the platform, investigate reported misconduct, address security or technical issues, comply with legal obligations, or enforce these Terms.
YPJC does not undertake to routinely monitor private member communications.
Members should use appropriate judgment when sharing personal, confidential, financial, or other sensitive information through the platform.
11. Standards of Conduct
YPJC is intended to provide a welcoming, professional, and community-oriented environment.
Members are expected to treat other members, guests, YPJC and Chamber staff, volunteers, speakers, partners, vendors, and event hosts with respect.
Conduct that may result in corrective action, suspension, or termination includes, but is not limited to:
- Harassment, bullying, threats, intimidation, or discriminatory conduct
- Violence or conduct that creates a reasonable safety concern
- Inappropriate sexual conduct or unwanted advances
- Repeated disruptive behavior
- Fraud, theft, or illegal activity
- Abuse of YPJC communication platforms
- Misuse of member information
- Conduct that materially disrupts YPJC programs or events
- Serious or repeated violations of these Terms or other YPJC policies
These standards apply to YPJC events, programs, digital platforms, and other activities conducted under the YPJC name.
12. Suspension and Termination of Membership
YPJC reserves the right to warn, restrict, suspend, or terminate a member’s membership or access to YPJC platforms when YPJC reasonably determines that the member has violated these Terms, created a safety concern, abused membership privileges, or engaged in serious conduct inconsistent with the operation of the organization.
The appropriate response may depend on the circumstances and severity of the conduct. YPJC is not required to provide a warning before taking action when immediate action is reasonably necessary.
A member whose membership is terminated for misconduct or violation of these Terms generally forfeits membership dues and is not entitled to a refund.
Termination of membership may also result in loss of access to the member portal, directory, messaging features, member pricing, events, programs, or other benefits.
13. Events and Event Fees
YPJC membership provides access to YPJC programming and member opportunities, but it does not guarantee free admission to every event.
Many YPJC events are included with membership, while certain events, programs, trips, activities, or experiences may require an additional registration fee.
Unless otherwise stated for a particular event, paid event registrations are nonrefundable.
Individual events may have additional rules, registration requirements, capacity limits, deadlines, age restrictions, cancellation policies, or participation requirements. Event-specific terms communicated during registration will apply in addition to these Terms.
YPJC may modify, postpone, relocate, or cancel events when reasonably necessary.
14. Participation in Events and Assumption of Risk
Participation in YPJC events and activities is voluntary.
YPJC activities vary widely and may include social gatherings, outdoor activities, recreational activities, sporting events, volunteer projects, travel or transportation, food and beverage service, physical activities, activities at third-party venues, and other experiences.
By choosing to participate, you acknowledge that activities may involve inherent and unforeseen risks, including risks of accident, injury, illness, property damage, or other loss. You voluntarily assume the ordinary and inherent risks associated with the activities in which you choose to participate.
You are responsible for determining whether an activity is appropriate for you and for following reasonable safety instructions, venue requirements, and applicable laws.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, you agree that YPJC, The Chamber of Commerce Foundation, and their respective directors, officers, employees, volunteers, and representatives will not be liable for injury, loss, or damage resulting from ordinary risks inherent in your voluntary participation in YPJC activities.
Nothing in these Terms is intended to waive or limit liability that cannot legally be waived or limited under applicable law.
15. Event Photography and Recording
YPJC regularly photographs and records its events for communications, marketing, social media, historical documentation, and promotion of YPJC and Chamber programs.
By attending a YPJC event, you understand that you may appear incidentally in photographs or recordings taken in public or group settings and that those materials may be used by YPJC or the Chamber without compensation.
If you do not wish to be intentionally photographed, please notify the photographer or a YPJC staff member at the beginning of each event. We will make reasonable efforts to respect that request.
Because events may involve group photography, crowds, multiple photographers, or incidental background appearances, YPJC cannot guarantee that an attendee will never appear in a photograph or recording.
16. Sponsors, Partners, Venues, and Other Members
YPJC works with sponsors, community partners, businesses, venues, speakers, vendors, and other organizations.
YPJC’s relationship with or promotion of a third party does not constitute a guarantee or endorsement of that party’s products, services, advice, representations, or conduct.
Members are responsible for evaluating any business relationship, purchase, professional service, opportunity, recommendation, or transaction they enter into with another member or third party.
YPJC is not a party to private transactions or agreements between members.
17. Educational Information and Advice
YPJC programs are designed to encourage professional development, community engagement, connection, and the exchange of ideas and experiences.
Speakers, members, partners, and other participants may share advice, opinions, recommendations, strategies, or personal experiences. These perspectives belong to the individuals providing them and do not necessarily represent the position of YPJC or The Chamber of Commerce Foundation.
Information provided through YPJC programs, events, communications, or online platforms is intended for general educational and informational purposes. Individual circumstances vary, and information that is helpful or appropriate for one person or organization may not be appropriate for another.
Members should use their own judgment and seek qualified professional advice when appropriate.
18. Website Availability
YPJC makes reasonable efforts to maintain its website, member portal, directory, and communication features but does not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free availability.
Features may occasionally be unavailable because of maintenance, technical issues, security concerns, service-provider outages, updates, or circumstances outside YPJC’s control.
YPJC may modify, replace, discontinue, or add website and membership features from time to time.
19. Privacy
Use of the YPJC website and membership services is also subject to the YPJC Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, store, and share personal information.
20. Changes to These Terms
YPJC may update these Terms periodically to reflect changes to membership, website functionality, programs, policies, or applicable law.
Material changes affecting existing members may be communicated by email or through the member portal when appropriate.
Continued use of YPJC membership services after updated Terms become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms to the extent permitted by applicable law.
21. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Tennessee, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
